Chikkamagaluru: Congress candidate from Chikkamagaluru Assembly constituency H. D. Thamaiah, who had come to the Idgah Ground in KEB Circle to greet him on the occasion of Ramzan. The incident took place on Saturday April 22 when Muslims expressed their anger against Thammaiah.

Several Muslims, who had come for mass prayers, lashed out at the Congress for campaigning for the elections. Muslims strongly objected to the Congress candidate. A war of words broke out between two Muslim groups.

Thammaiah stood as a mute spectator. As the anger intensified, he returned from the spot in embarrassment. Block Congress president Manjegowda tried to pacify the agitators but could not.
