Chikkamagaluru: ‘Working on control of disease’

Chikkamagaluru: District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Umesh said that the Department of Health and Family Welfare is actively working in the District to control the non-communicable and communicable diseases.

He was speaking at an awareness workshop on the planning programmes of the Health Department. “All eligible couple in the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) programme will be enrolled for prenatal check-up and will be examined and treated by a specialist at least 4 times,” he said and added that pregnant women will be identified and given appropriate advice and treatment in the birth safety procedure.

‘After delivery, a woman from a BPL family will be given a subsidy of Rs. 600, all children born in the hospital will be tested by experts and appropriate treatment along with BCG, hepatitis-B, polio, vitamin – K vaccine,” he added.

“Children between the ages of 1 to 5 years are given Vitamin solution once in 6 months. We are taking fortnightly measures to control diarrhoea in children,” he said.

District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Balakrishna said, “We are working towards making India TB-free by 2025. It is a communicable disease. It should be detected early and treatment should be started. We are going to conduct sputum test in all Primary Health Care Centres. If found positive, they will be cured after 6 to 9 months of treatment,” he said.

“A patient will be given Rs. 500 for nutritious food at that time. The HIV infection rate in the District has come down from 592 in 2011 – 12 to only 150 now. They are also getting free treatment,” he said.

Last year, 197 cases of Dengue, six of Malaria and 16 of Chikungunya were detected. He said only 5 dengue and 1 Chikungunya have been detected in 2 months this year.

He said that under the Family wezlfare programme, they can choose a method as per their wishes by administering permanent methods, intra-vedic and emergency contraceptive pills.

District Surveillance Officer Dr. Manjunath said that in rural areas of the District, the survey of communicable diseases has been completed through community health officials and ASHA workers. “They are giving medicines prescribed by the Government to test for diabetes and BP. One case of Kyasanur Forest Disease was reported from Koppa in the District and the patient has been cured. Covid is zero in the dis6trict. H2N3 need not be afraid and caution is necessary,” he said.
