Chikkamagaluru: The Chikkamagaluru Muslim Association has warned that if the Congress gives ticket to RSS Supporter H. D. Thammaiah, who has been making anti-Muslim remarks on Datta Jayanthi and other occasions, his community will have to think carefully while voting in the elections this time.
Addressing a press conference, Association Secretary Rasool Khan said that the Muslim community will vote for anyone who is given a ticket except Thammaiah. However, if a person who spoke against the community on the occasion of Datta Jayanti is given a ticket, the 37,000 voters of the constituency will have to think and decide to vote, he said.
Since the beginning, 90 per cent of Muslims have been voting for the Congress and Sagir Ahmed from our community has won thrice and has done good governance. If C. N. Akmal, who is now able to contest, is given a ticket, we will all support him. We have no objection even if other Congressmen who have applied are given tickets. However, we are opposed to giving a ticket to a person who has made false statements against Muslims and insulted Muslims on the occasion of Datta Jayanti, he said.
He said a meeting will have to be held under the leadership of gurus of various mosques to discuss the decision. Leaders Irfan, Salman, Hafiz, Naveed Pasha, Ajmal Pasha and others were present.
