Chikkamangaluru: Two prime accused in the sensational DySP Kallappa Handibhag suicide case, arrested on Thursday, August 18 by the CID officials were produced in district court on Friday.
Naveen Shetty and his son Ashwin Shetty, key-accused in the case were arrested on Thursday evening from a farmhouse in Hassan. It is said that the two executed the abduction plan on behest of righwing activist Praveen Khandya. Naveen Shetty runs a dog breeding business in Bengaluru. However, the mastermind behind the abduction case-Praveen Khandya still remains at large.
It may be recalled that during first week of June, DySP Kallappa Handibhag ended life after his named cropped up in Tejas Gowda abduction case. A audio clip made available from some source revealed that Tejas Gowda’s friend makes a call to a particular Chikkamgaluru police’s number to negotiation on ransom after Gowda was abducted and the person who receives the call on police’s number talks of sending the amount to a particular location. It was later confirmed that Tejas Gowda’s friend had called on Kallappa’s phone number. A day after the incident Handibhag ended life.
Naveen Shetty and his son were quizzed by the CID police and were later produced before the district court. They have been sent to police custody for further interrogation.
