Hassan: Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Department D.M. Manjunath said that the upcoming Assembly elections are a festival of the democratic system and voters should actively participate in the polls without being lured by any inducements in order to ensure a transparent election.
Addressing a press conference here, he said all efforts are being made to conduct transparent elections in the district as per the directions of the Election Commission.

In this regard, the cooperation of the voters is essential and called upon the voters to maintain a moral right without being lured by the candidates.
He said a fine of Rs 30-35 lakh has already been collected for luring voters during elections and other items, including sarees, gold ornaments and other items collected to be gifted to voters, have been handed over to the police.
Strict measures are also being taken by the Commercial Taxes Department to prevent any illegal activity before the polls, he said, adding that illegally stored items and undocumented goods and goods are being seized and penalties are being taken.

In order to prevent electoral malpractices, election nodal officers have been appointed in the respective Vidhan Sabha constituencies so that the public can be informed if any irregularities are found, he said.
