Hassan: The date for the upcoming Vidhana Sabha elections has already been fixed and to prevent any illegal activities, the police department has erected check-posts in key parts of the district and deployed police and revenue officials, according to the senior police official Hariram Shankar.
Speaking at a press conference held in the police commissioner’s office, he said that check-posts had been set up throughout the district. Until now, only police officers were stationed, but now that the code of conduct has been enforced, police officers and revenue officials are working together at each check-post. In the coming days, four police officers will be stationed at each check-post. Many check-posts have already been set up and are functioning.
Several incidents of illegal money and liquor being seized during check-posts have been reported already. As per the Election Commission’s directive, during the election period, police and revenue officials inspect vehicles in every nook and corner, and they do not allow any vehicle to travel with more than 50,000 rupees in cash. If any money or other illegal items are found, proper documentation may be provided and action can be taken.
Everyone should cooperate peacefully during the verification process. From April 15, more companies will be joining in to strengthen check-posts. Wherever there is a shortage of police or other officials, steps are already being taken to bring in officials from other areas, they said.
