Hassan: Former Prime Minister and Rajya Sabha Member H. D. Deve Gowda has condoled the demise of Shravanabelagola Jain Matha Seer Parampujya Swasthisri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji.
Born on May 3, 1949, in the name of Ratnavarma, originally in Varanga Village of Karkala, he had ascended the seat of Shravanabelagola Jain Matha in 1970. Since then he has made his own invaluable contribution to the prosperity of the Matha.
He was a historian, philosopher, secured Master’s Degree in History, Kannada and Sanskrit, as well as Prakrit and worked tirelessly for the development of the language.
Kayakayogi Seer who revived hundreds of Jain Basadis also had established polytechnics, engineering, nursing and Prakrit Universities. His demise is an irreparable loss to the religious, spiritual and educational fields.
He was one of the leading exponents of Jainism and worked hard to convey the message of 24 Tirthankaras to the masses. For 12 years, he wrote the Agama text of Davala and Jayadavala, a mirror of his devotion to work and piety. In 1981, 1993, 2006 and 2018, he performed the Mahamastakabhisheka successfully and was appreciated not only in the District, State, Country but also in the world.
