Shivamogga: Two elephants were shifted from Sakrebailu Elephant Camp to Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday February 2. There was a demand earlier to send four elephants. At the last minute, only two elephants are being taken away.

Ravi ( 26), and Shiva (7), were taken to Madhya Pradesh in lorries. Transporting of Manikanta (37) and Ganesh (36) of Bengaluru, were abandoned at the last minute. It is learnt that both the elephants were of a ferocious nature and refused on the ground. It was felt that it would be difficult to tame them. Three more elephants are required and are likely to be selected in a month-and-a-half.

The Madhya Pradesh Government has obtained permission to transport a total of 14 elephants from various camps in Karnataka. The number of tigers in the Kanha Sanctuary is high and these elephants are used for patrolling.
