Autorickshaw Driver Fined for Not Wearing Helmet, Despite Owning No Two-Wheeler
An autorickshaw driver from Uppinangady, Rohit, received a surprising fine notice from the Talakadu police in Mysuru, accusing him of not wearing a helmet. The message, sent on September 12, 2024, claimed Rohit’s vehicle, KA21B3862, was found without a helmet at Talakadu Junction, requiring him to pay a fine of Rs 500 as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
Though the vehicle number matches Rohit’s autorickshaw, the fine was issued for a two-wheeler violation. Rohit, who was in Uppinangady on the day in question and does not own a two-wheeler, found the situation highly confusing.
He reached out to Uppinangady police, who advised him to wait for a formal notice. When he contacted Talakadu police, they confirmed they do not use a CCTV fine system, raising suspicions of a possible fraudulent message.
