Mangaluru: In a disturbing case from Puttur, a college student has given birth to a baby boy after allegedly being sexually assaulted by her classmate, Krishna Rao, the son of a local BJP leader. Rao is currently on the run following a police complaint.
According to the complaint, the accused and the victim had been in a relationship since their school days and later attended the same private college in Mangaluru. It is alleged that Rao misused her trust and engaged in sexual relations under the pretext of love.
The first reported assault occurred on October 11, 2024, when Krishna invited the girl to his home claiming no one was present. A second incident was reported in January 2025, where he allegedly coerced her again.
Trouble escalated when the victim became pregnant. Krishna reportedly refused to marry her or take responsibility, further isolating her during an emotionally difficult time. After months of trauma and social stigma, the girl finally approached the Puttur Women’s Police Station on June 24 to file a complaint.
A case has been registered under Sections 64(1) and 69 of the IPC, and a special police team has been deployed to locate the absconding accused. Authorities have intensified search efforts.
The case has triggered public anger, with activists and citizens demanding impartial justice and action regardless of political influence.
