Uppinangady: A private bus driver returning home after work was allegedly attacked and robbed by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Alekki in Ilanthila village under the Uppinangady police limits on Thursday night.
Driver attacked on his way home
The victim, identified as Maxim Pinto (47) from Kokkada village, was heading home from Bandaru via Mura Road when the incident occurred. According to his complaint, two helmet-wearing men followed him on a bike, intercepted his vehicle at Alekki, and attacked him before snatching ₹4,000 in cash.
Police launch investigation
Following the incident, the Uppinangady police conducted a spot inspection and registered a case. The police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the accused and identify the vehicle used in the crime.
Officials said that initial investigations suggest the culprits might have been monitoring the victim’s movements before targeting him. Police teams have been deployed in surrounding villages to track down suspects.
Victim recovering
Pinto sustained minor injuries during the attack and is reported to be recovering. He stated that the assailants fled the scene immediately after the robbery. Locals who arrived later helped him reach home safely.
The police have urged residents in the area to remain cautious, especially those travelling late at night on isolated stretches. Further investigation is underway.
