Mangaluru: In a strong move against narcotics, Mangaluru city police have intensified efforts to curb the drug menace. So far in 2025, authorities have filed 40 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the arrest of 67 individuals. Illegal substances worth ₹1.36 crore have been confiscated.

The contraband collected this year includes 145.324 kilograms of marijuana, 319.976 grams of MDMA, 13 grams of MDMA tablets, and 756.52 grams of high-potency hydro weed, among other substances.

A significant seizure was followed by a massive destruction drive on January 15. In this operation, officials disposed of 335.460 kg of cannabis, 7.640 kg of MDMA, and 16 grams of cocaine. The narcotics incinerated during this campaign were valued at ₹6.80 crore.

Further continuing the clean-up, another drug disposal initiative was carried out on July 10 at Re Sustainability Healthcare Solutions Ltd, situated in the Kolnadu Industrial Zone, Mulki. With judicial approval, narcotics collected from 23 cases across nine police jurisdictions under the Mangaluru commissionerate were incinerated. This included 21.320 kg of marijuana and 60 grams of MDMA.

Beyond busting traffickers, law enforcement has cracked down on substance abusers too. In 2025, 335 cases have been filed against 376 individuals for consumption-related violations under the NDPS Act.

The police remain committed to keeping the city drug-free through ongoing vigilance and enforcement.
