Mangaluru: The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected office-bearers of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union (DKWJU) for the 2025–28 term was held at the Press Club on Friday. The event marked an important milestone for the association as it enters its golden jubilee year, drawing the participation of former and newly elected representatives.

New committee formally takes charge

Former president Srinivas Nayak Indaje and former general secretary Jitendra Kundeshwar officially handed over responsibilities to the new leadership team. The newly elected office-bearers include president Pushparaj B N, general secretary Rajesh K Poojary, and treasurer Vijay Kotian.

The oath was administered by former office-bearers Anand Shetty K, Jagannath Shetty Bala, and Harsha, who congratulated the new committee members and emphasised the importance of continuity, teamwork, and professional ethics within the organisation.

Call to strengthen the association in its golden jubilee year

Speaking on the occasion, former president Anand Shetty urged the newly elected team to strengthen the union and build on the initiatives undertaken by previous committees. He highlighted that the golden jubilee year presented an opportunity to reinforce unity among journalists in the region, promote professional welfare, and enhance the association’s activities.

He noted that the media fraternity continues to face evolving challenges, making collective support and strong leadership essential.

After assuming charge, president Pushparaj B N assured members that the new committee would continue the welfare-oriented programmes initiated by the previous leadership. He stressed the need for health insurance support for journalists, enhancing welfare schemes, and strengthening taluk-level journalist associations for better regional representation.

He also expressed confidence that collaboration and collective effort would help the union achieve new milestones in the years ahead.
