Mangaluru: An elderly man in Udupi fell victim to a sophisticated online scam, losing Rs 23.7 lakh in the process. Vedavyasa, the victim, lodged a complaint stating that he had received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown person promoting an investment opportunity. The message detailed potential profits from investing in shares and trading through an app called Eltas Fud.

Believing the fraudulent claims, Vedavyasa was persuaded to download the app and invest his money in phases. Over time, he transferred a total of Rs 23,73,891. Unfortunately, he was unable to recover any of the invested money, realizing too late that he had been duped.

Vedavyasa’s case highlights the growing threat of cyber fraud, particularly targeting the elderly and unsuspecting individuals. The incident has been registered with the local police, who are now investigating the scam and working to track down the fraudsters.
