Mangaluru bid a heartfelt farewell to one of its most cherished cultural icons, Sangathi K Raghav Bangera, who passed away at 78 on Monday at his Asaigoli residence, following age-related ailments.
Hailing from Bajal Pakkaladka, Bangera was more than just a theatre veteran — he was a staunch leftist thinker who used the stage to advocate for justice, equality, and social reform. His artistic journey began with Pakkaladka Yuvaka Mandala, a vibrant youth forum where he honed his creative and ideological voice.
Known for his bold, socially conscious plays, Bangera directed and acted in numerous productions, especially during local festivals and community gatherings. His writings and original songs, crafted for stage performances, continue to echo in the memories of theatre enthusiasts across the region.
For over four decades, Bangera made Asaigoli his home, continuing to guide and inspire local cultural groups. Even amid shifting political tides, he stood unwavering in his progressive convictions, embodying the spirit of art as activism.
Bangera’s passing is a profound loss to the theatre community, ideological circles, and all who admired his fearless creativity and people-first philosophy.
He is survived by his wife, three children, and an extended family. Tributes have poured in from across coastal Karnataka, remembering him fondly as a “people’s artiste” who fused art, conscience, and commitment.
