Mangaluru: Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay, in collaboration with the Father Muller Simulation and Skill Centre, units of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, successfully organized a one-day national workshop titled “Crafting Clinical Realism” on low-cost moulage preparation on April 10, 2026, at Muller Mini Hall, Kankanady. The workshop also marked the 10th anniversary of the Simulation Lab.
The programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp in the presence of dignitaries including Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director FMCI; Rev. Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo, Administrator FMNCT; Dr. Dinkar Pai, Chief Guest; Mr. Hemanth, Guest of Honour; Dr. Reena Wilma Frank, Organizing Chairperson; and Ms. Silviya Nisha Lobo, Organizing Secretary. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo.
Focus on simulation-based healthcare training
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Dr. Dinkar Pai highlighted the growing importance of simulation in healthcare education and emphasized the rapid expansion of simulation centres across India. He encouraged professionals to adopt simulation-based learning to enhance patient safety and clinical decision-making.
In his presidential address, Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo stressed the significance of moulage as an effective teaching tool that prepares healthcare professionals for real-world clinical scenarios, while advocating adaptability in modern education methods.
Hands-on sessions and expert guidance
The workshop featured expert sessions by Dr. Dinkar Pai, Mr. Hemanth, and Dr. Lulu Sherif Mahmood. Participants were introduced to moulage realism, material science, and cost-effective preparation of simulated body fluids such as blood, pus, and other clinical substances.
Hands-on training enabled participants to create realistic injuries including bruises, burns, lacerations, and infected wounds using special effects techniques. A post-lunch session included the “Moulage War – Battle of Realism,” where participants applied their learning through case-based group activities, followed by evaluation and feedback.
Participation and collaboration
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from healthcare faculty, postgraduate students, simulation educators, and technicians from across the country, reflecting growing interest in innovative teaching methodologies.
The event was supported by Tech4HC, led by Mr. Tapa Bhattacharya, which provided materials for the hands-on sessions.
Successful conclusion
The programme concluded with a valedictory session, marking the successful completion of the workshop. The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Reena Wilma Frank and Dr. Rithesh Joseph D Cunha as Organizing Chairpersons, with Ms. Silviya Nisha Lobo and Mr. Pradeep Dsouza serving as Organizing Secretaries.
