Mangaluru: In a major breakthrough in an ongoing drug investigation, Mangaluru police have arrested a former medical student who allegedly acted as a key link in a narcotics supply chain operating across multiple states.

The accused, Prajwal Peenyas, originally from Kodipalya in Bidar, was taken into custody for sourcing illegal drugs from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and distributing them within Mangaluru city. His arrest stems from a drug-related case initially registered on July 2.

Prajwal, who had previously studied at a private medical institution in Mangaluru, was allegedly a central player in the supply network. He was produced before a magistrate and has been remanded to judicial custody.

With this arrest, the total number of individuals detained in connection to the case has now reached nine. All are suspected of being part of a wider syndicate supplying drugs to students and others in the region. Notably, three separate cases of drug trafficking had already been registered against Prajwal in different police stations across Mangaluru.

Authorities believe this arrest is a significant step in dismantling the interstate drug operation. Further investigations are underway to trace remaining links in the chain.
