Mangalore: In a major breakthrough, the Mangalore City Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the stabbing incident that occurred in the Kana area under Surathkal Police Station limits late on Wednesday night. The attack, which took place around 10:30 p.m. on October 23 near Kana Deepak Bar, left two youths — Hasan Muksi and Nizam — injured.

The police have identified the prime accused as Gururaj Acharya, who is still absconding. An intensive manhunt has been launched to trace his whereabouts.

Four suspects apprehended

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sushanth alias Kadavi (29), K.V. Alex (27), Nitin (26) — all residents of Kana, Surathkal — and Arun Shetty (56), who is accused of providing shelter to the main suspects. Another individual, Ashok, who allegedly helped harbour the accused, remains at large.

According to initial investigations, the incident appears to have arisen from a minor altercation that escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the victims being stabbed. The police have registered a case of attempted murder, reflecting the gravity of the offence.

Coordinated police operation

The arrests were made following an intensive search operation carried out under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Ravishankar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Northern Sub-division) Srikant K. The operation was led by Surathkal Police Inspector Pramod Kumar P.

The investigative team included PSIs Raghavendra Naik, Janardhana Naik, Shashidhara Shetty, ASIs Rajesh Alva, Taranath, Radhakrishna, along with staff members Annappa, Umesh Kumar, Tirupati, Ajit Matthew, Ramu K, Karthik, Vinod, and officers from the CCB unit, SAF team, and a dog squad, ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach to the case.

Search for main accused continues

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice. “We are following all leads and will continue deploying every available resource to trace the absconding accused,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigation.

The hunt for Gururaj Acharya and Ashok remains ongoing. Police officials have appealed to the public to share any credible information that could assist in their capture.
