As part of a drive to support education, 50 students at Koila Government High School were presented with free bicycles during the school’s annual day celebration on Wednesday. The initiative was sponsored by Canara Robeco Financial Services.
Muralidhar Shenoi, the company’s head, and M Durgadas Shetty, president of the School Development Committee, attended the event. Retired headmaster Narayana Nayak Kapre, who inaugurated the celebration, emphasized the importance of ensuring that financial hardships do not disrupt children’s education. He called upon philanthropists and organizations to aid deserving but underprivileged students.
Durgadas Shetty stressed the necessity of consistent government backing for the growth of government schools, while Shenoi highlighted Canara Robeco’s community-oriented mission, dedicating 2% of its profits to welfare programs.
The ceremony saw retired headmaster Cyprian D’Souza convey his best wishes, alongside contributions from local dignitaries such as Suresh Shetty, president of Loretto Hills Rotary Club, and vice-president Vijay Fernandes.
Key moments included a welcome speech by senior teacher Soumya H, an introductory address by headmistress Soujanya Rao, and the event’s conclusion with a vote of thanks delivered by physical education director Janardhana. Teacher Ramesh Maiya anchored the proceedings, ensuring a lively celebration.
The gesture of gifting bicycles highlighted a collaborative effort to uplift education in rural areas.
