Officials said improper planning during the construction of the national highway prevented rainwater from flowing into stormwater drains as intended. Instead, excess water spilled onto the main road, causing traffic snarls and hazardous conditions.

The problem was aggravated by the lack of routine desilting at the junction, which has allowed silt and debris to accumulate and block drainage pathways.

Even though authorities spent nearly ₹14 crore to build a four-lane stretch from Thokkottu Junction to Chembugudde, the area still suffers from flooding due to inadequate development and poor maintenance.

Residents and commuters have urged officials to address these persistent issues to prevent similar incidents during future rains.
