Mangaluru: Speaking after a successful peace meeting in Mangaluru, Karnataka Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara described the gathering as constructive and peaceful, with unanimous support and no opposition to the discussions held.
He said several positive suggestions were received, and added that these inputs would be reviewed with relevant stakeholders to arrive at appropriate solutions. “We will take action where necessary, but harsh or extreme measures will not be encouraged,” he assured.
The Minister stressed that while the police department continues to do its duty, it is equally important for citizens to cooperate and maintain order.
Dr Parameshwara also announced plans to introduce legislation targeting hate speech and misinformation. “We will not tolerate any legal violations. Everything must function within the framework of law,” he said firmly.
Touching on the issue of moral policing during cattle transport, he cautioned against individuals taking the law into their own hands. “If any illegal activity is suspected, report it to the police. Do not act on your own,” he emphasized, adding that legal compliance is non-negotiable.
Regarding recent discussions on sand and stone mining, he noted that the district in-charge minister had already held a dedicated meeting.
He dismissed rumours of internal rifts within the Congress party, saying that some MLAs had merely raised local issues, such as delayed funds for their constituencies.
He concluded by stating that the state’s financial health remains stable, especially concerning the ongoing guarantee schemes.
