Mangaluru: Lady Goschen Hospital has firmly refuted allegations circulating in a viral message that accused the facility of selling a newborn baby.

Dr. Durgaprasad MR, the medical superintendent of the government-run hospital, clarified that the claims were untrue. He explained that a woman who delivered a baby girl on August 18 refused to accept the child due to an eye defect. She also alleged that the hospital staff had swapped her baby with another.

Following these accusations, the matter escalated, leading to the registration of a police case. A DNA test was conducted as per the court’s directive to ascertain the truth. The results of the test have not been disclosed yet.

Currently, the baby is under the care and protection of the Dakshina Kannada Child Protection Unit. Dr. Durgaprasad emphasized that the allegations against the hospital were unfounded and dismissed them as baseless.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by healthcare institutions when dealing with sensitive situations and misinformation. Authorities continue to handle the case with due legal procedure.
