Mangaluru: Mumbai Police are set to arrive in Mangaluru soon as part of an inquiry into Bilal Ahmad Teli (22), who was recently arrested for allegedly trespassing into the IIT Bombay campus and attending lectures without authorization.
Although Bilal is believed to be from Mangaluru, local police officials have not yet received formal confirmation from Mumbai counterparts regarding his identity or address. They stated that verification of his background lies with the investigating team from Mumbai, who are expected in Mangaluru shortly.
On Campus for Nearly 3 Weeks
Bilal reportedly managed to stay on the IIT campus undetected for about 20 days. First seen on June 4 without a valid ID card, he raised suspicion among faculty members. On June 17, he was once again noticed attending a lecture, leading to his detention by Powai Police on June 19.
Created 21 Email Accounts
During questioning, authorities discovered that Bilal had entered the premises under the guise of a one-day academic event. However, he overstayed, residing in a hostel overnight and attending multiple classes. He also filmed videos on campus and is said to have operated 21 different Gmail accounts.
Police confirmed that no dangerous items or documents were found in his possession. Bilal has since been remanded to police custody by a local court for deeper investigation.
