Mangaluru: Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that Karnataka is set to establish 42 automated driving test tracks across the state by the end of the year. He made this statement while launching a newly constructed test track in Pajeer village, Ullal, near Mangaluru.
The Minister highlighted that once completed, Karnataka will hold the distinction of having the highest number of such automated facilities in the nation. The initiative ensures that each district receives at least one track. Several are already operational in locations like Dharwad, Koppala, Chintamani, and Sirsi. Ongoing work continues in Gulbarga, Yadagiri, KGF, and Belagavi. Future developments are planned for Honnavara, Madhugiri, and Gokak.
The Pajeer track, built at an investment of ₹7 crore, reflects a significant upgrade in driving test infrastructure. Alongside this, 500 electric buses are being deployed statewide, with 100 allocated to Mangaluru. Minister Reddy mentioned that while maintenance is outsourced, conductors will be appointed by the government. Land is being scouted for a new depot. He also shared that talks are underway with Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy for GST relief on e-buses.
MP Capt Brijesh Chowta welcomed the Pajeer track as a long-awaited development and urged for more KSRTC interstate buses between Mangaluru and Kasargod.
MLA and Speaker U T Khader stated that such infrastructure will boost Ullal’s growth, noting upcoming projects like Beary Bhavana and Abbakka Bhavana. Village accountants also received laptops during the event.
