Puttur – In a harrowing accident on the winding Shiradi Ghat stretch of Sakleshpur taluk, two Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses collided near Maranahalli on Thursday afternoon, leaving 25 passengers injured.
Preliminary reports suggest that one bus was travelling from Bengaluru to Mangaluru, while the other was on its way from Dharmasthala to Mangaluru. The narrow, curving ghat road—coupled with likely visibility issues—appears to have played a role in the mishap.
Among the injured, eight passengers and one of the bus drivers sustained serious injuries. They were swiftly rushed to the Government Hospital in Sakleshpur for treatment. Others with minor injuries have been given first aid and are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, and efforts are underway to clear the route, which experiences frequent congestion due to terrain and weather.
