Mangaluru: In a move that has drawn appreciation from daily commuters, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is set to introduce four more Rajahamsa buses on the Mangaluru–Kasaragod route. This decision comes after the success of a recent trial service and rising public demand for improved long-distance travel options.

Rajesh Shetty, KSRTC’s Divisional Controller (Mangaluru Division), confirmed the announcement during a felicitation event by members of the ‘Saha Yatri’ WhatsApp commuters group. The group thanked him for fulfilling his earlier commitment to enhancing connectivity along this busy corridor.

Previously, Shetty had assured the public that KSRTC would add regular services once the Kasaragod highway stretch was completed. With the trial run receiving strong support, the move to expand services is expected to greatly benefit regular travellers. Commuters Kishore Enangoodlu, Lokesh Jodukallu, and Shivakrishna Niduvaje acknowledged the quick action and credited continued follow-ups for building trust in public transport services.

Rain Safety Measures in Kasaragod Schools

Meanwhile, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Kasaragod, led by Additional District Magistrate P. Akhil, has intensified school safety measures in response to persistent heavy rains.

Newly formed expert committees will assess:

  • Structural and electrical safety

  • Wildlife intrusion threats

  • Water bodies near school campuses

  • Departments including KSEB, PWD, Fire Services, RTO, and Forest have been directed to conduct immediate inspections. School authorities must now update disaster management plans with detailed safety annexures.

The Deputy Director of Education has been instructed to submit action-taken reports within a week, as officials stress strict compliance amid continued downpours.
