Mangaluru: The Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple is set to celebrate Mangaluru Dasara with a series of spiritual, cultural, and social programmes from September 22 to October 2. Temple treasurer Padmaraj R Poojary announced the schedule, highlighting that this year’s festival promises a unique variety of events every day.
A confluence of tradition and devotion
The festival will be held under the guidance of the temple’s development architect and former Union minister B Janardhan Poojary. “The Dasara at Kudroli temple is not just a celebration; it is a blend of spirituality, culture, and social service,” said Padmaraj.
Key rituals such as the installation of idols of Mahaganapati, Adishakti, Sharada Mata, and Navadurga will be performed with traditional fervour. Religious ceremonies including Ganahoma and Chandika Yaga will also be held during the festival period.
Competitions and cultural highlights
To engage devotees and visitors, various competitions will be organised, offering a total prize money of ₹1 lakh. Highlights include:

Kinnipili, a tiger dance competition for children under two age groups (below four years and between four to eight years)
Devotional song contests
Painting competitions
Muddu Sharade contests for young participants
In addition, multi-lingual poetry sessions in Tulu and Kannada and a one-day event dedicated to children’s Dasara will add colour to the celebrations.
Art and performances from across states
Each day of Mangaluru Dasara will showcase performances by three different teams, bringing a fresh experience for attendees. Around 700–800 artistes from 31 teams are expected to perform, representing not only Karnataka but also other states, making the festival an inter-state cultural extravaganza.
Performances will include Bharatanatyam, veena recitals, folk arts, Harikatha, Talamaddale, Yakshagana, magic shows, and cultural displays by Alva’s Institutions and SDM colleges.
Recognising achievers and community service
In line with the temple’s tradition of honouring service and dedication, female achievers who have contributed selflessly to society will be felicitated during the festival. Organisations known for their selfless service will also be recognised.
Grand celebration for all
Temple committee president H Jairaj Somasundar, general secretary B Madhava Suvarna, and trustees were present at the announcement. The organisers emphasised that Mangaluru Dasara at Kudroli Temple will once again highlight the region’s rich spiritual heritage and cultural diversity, offering a memorable experience for devotees and art lovers alike.
