Bantwal, July 7: In a tragic turn of events, a 30-year-old man allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend and later died by suicide at her residence in Sujeeru near Maripalla, under the Bantwal Rural Police Station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Sudheer, a resident of Kodman, while the injured woman, Divya alias Deekshitha (26), has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.

Relationship turned violent

According to police, Sudheer and Divya were in a relationship for nearly eight years, but had parted ways following disputes over the past few months. Despite the separation, Sudheer allegedly continued to pursue and harass Divya, urging her to reconcile and marry him.

On the morning of July 7, Sudheer reportedly approached Divya at Sujeer Malli, Farangipete, and once again demanded that she marry him. When Divya refused, a heated argument ensued. In a sudden fit of rage, Sudheer pulled out a knife and stabbed her. Thinking she had succumbed to her injuries, he fled the scene.

Suicide in her rented house

After the attack, Sudheer made his way to Divya’s rented house, which was reportedly empty at the time. There, he hanged himself, ending his life. Family members, who found Divya injured, rushed her to the hospital.

Police have confirmed that no one was at home when Sudheer entered the residence to take his life.

Legal proceedings underway

Bantwal Rural Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the matter. Officials stated that further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry and Divya’s statement once she is stable.
