The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) budget presented on Tuesday has faced sharp criticism from the opposition. Leader of Opposition Anil Kumar accused the administration of failing to generate additional revenue and lamented the absence of several beneficial schemes. “Many good initiatives could have been included, but they are missing. With the upcoming elections, we expected a more thorough budget, but this one is disappointing,” he stated.

Naveen D’Souza, another opposition member, voiced his frustration in Tulu, expressing dismay over the lack of a single-window system in the budget. “We were hopeful that the administration would introduce a single-window system, but our expectations have been dashed. While the mayor is capable, it seems the standing committee chairperson did not dedicate enough time for proper budget preparation. The budget is truly unsatisfactory,” he said.

In defense of the budget, MCC council chief whip Premanand Shetty labeled it well-balanced and comprehensive. “Some opposition members criticize the budget just because they are in the opposition, but deep down, they too find it satisfactory. This budget prioritizes health, education, sports, sanitation, and water supply, and we should appreciate that. It also clearly defines the revenue and expenditure,” Shetty remarked, urging support for the proposed plan.
