Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City police achieved significant breakthroughs with two major arrests on Thursday. In the first case, the CCB team seized hydro weed ganja worth ₹73 lakh and detained 42-year-old Shameer PK, a resident of Kozhikode, Kerala. Acting on a tip-off about banned substances being transported from Goa to Mangaluru and Kerala, police intercepted Shameer’s car near Bappanadu on the national highway. The seizure included 738g of hydro weed ganja, a car, and a mobile phone, valued at ₹80.1 lakh in total. Preliminary investigations revealed the ganja was smuggled from a foreign source, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated.
In another operation, Mangaluru CEN police arrested Nidhin Kumar KS, a resident of Thrissur, Kerala, for an online cheating case. The accused was implicated under Section 66(C) of the IT Act and Section 420 of the IPC. He allegedly deceived a complainant with promises of high returns in the share market, leading to an investment loss of ₹10.3 lakh. Investigators traced ₹1 lakh from the complainant to Nidhin’s account. The accused has been produced in court.
Both cases highlight Mangaluru police’s commitment to tackling organized crime and cyber fraud.
