Mangaluru: The upcoming caste census in Karnataka will begin on September 22, and authorities have urged all households to cooperate fully with the enumerators. U.T. Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, emphasised the importance of voluntary participation from households, organisations, and social groups.

Importance of cooperation

Khader stated that the caste census is essential for every household to ensure accurate data collection. “When census takers visit homes, residents should provide complete and correct information. This will help the government plan better and ensure that resources reach the intended beneficiaries,” he said.

Preparing households

He advised residents to prepare the necessary details in advance with the assistance of ASHA workers, who can guide them on how to answer the questions during the census. It was also noted that Aadhaar should be linked to mobile numbers to facilitate smooth data collection.

Awareness meeting

A special meeting has been scheduled in Mangaluru on September 17, aimed at making elected representatives and social organisations aware of the process and the importance of ensuring public cooperation.

Conclusion

The Karnataka caste census is part of the state government’s efforts to collect comprehensive data on social and economic indicators. Officials have appealed to citizens to actively participate, as accurate information will help improve welfare schemes and policy planning across the state.
