The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has launched an initiative to relocate street vendors to a newly established trade zone near Town Hall. However, the move has been met with resistance from vendors who are unhappy with the plan.

As part of a broader city development strategy, the MCC constructed the trade zone to offer a permanent, designated space for street vendors, including those selling fruits and vegetables along State Bank Road. Despite the availability of designated spots, many vendors have refused to move, citing concerns over the practicality and convenience of the new location.

In response, the MCC’s revenue department carried out an eviction operation to clear unauthorized vendors occupying public spaces. During the operation, several vendors expressed their dissatisfaction, arguing that the relocation plan was poorly conceived and not in line with their needs.

The eviction drive was briefly halted when a group of vendors obstructed the operation, insisting that their grievances be addressed before any further action was taken. The situation remains unresolved as discussions continue between the MCC and the vendors.
