Mangaluru: Raising a pressing local issue during the legislative session, MLA Vedavyasa Kamath highlighted the severe shortage of red stone and sand in Dakshina Kannada district.

Supporting senior BJP MLA Sunil Kumar’s concerns, Kamath criticized the Mines Department for framing rules from Bengaluru without understanding on-ground realities in Mangaluru. He urged officials to visit the district, study the situation, and then draft policies.

He pointed out that several meetings on the matter were held without inviting local MLAs, ignoring inputs from people’s representatives. Kamath stressed that laws should consider lease size, stone production capacity, and ground challenges before implementation.

The shortage has halted construction projects across the district, disrupting the local economy and leaving wage laborers in distress. He appealed to the government to act swiftly to restore normalcy and safeguard livelihoods.
