Mangaluru: In celebration of World Music Day, the INTACH Mangaluru Chapter and Art Kanara Trust, in collaboration with Chiranthana Charitable Trust, hosted an enchanting Hindustani classical music evening titled “Celebrate Monsoon in Mangaluru on World Music Day.” The concert was held on June 21 at the Kodial Guthu Centre for Art & Culture, Ballal Bagh.
The event marked the seventh edition of the Baithak@Kodialguthu series, a cultural platform dedicated to preserving and showcasing Karnataka’s vibrant classical music tradition.
Renowned Hindustani vocalist Vibha Srinivas Nayak headlined the performance, accompanied by Rajesh Bhagavath on tabla, Kumari Medha Bhat on harmonium, and Anvesha Nayak on tanpura.
The evening opened with a warm welcome from Subhas Basu, Convener of INTACH Mangaluru Chapter, who noted the poetic harmony between the onset of the monsoon and Hindustani music. “There’s no better way to welcome the rains than with Raag Malhar,” he remarked.
Sharvani Bhat, INTACH member, introduced the artists, who were later felicitated for their artistry. Vibha Nayak began her recital with Raag Megh Malhar, invoking the essence of the rainy season. She continued with an expressive mix of Raag Jaijaivanti and Miyan Malhar, concluding with a moving Thumri in Raag Desh.
The concert wrapped up with a vote of thanks by Bharavi Deraje, Managing Trustee of Chiranthana Charitable Trust, who praised the artists and organisers for fostering local musical talent.
