Puttur: In an emotionally charged press conference, the mother of a young woman from Puttur accused a local youth and his family of betrayal and fraud, demanding immediate justice for her daughter and newborn child. The girl’s mother alleged that Srikrishna J. Rao, son of P.G. Jagannivasa Rao, had promised to marry her daughter but later abandoned.

According to the mother, the relationship began when her daughter was a student at Ramakrishna School and continued through her college years in Mangaluru. When the pregnancy was revealed, the boy initially admitted responsibility and his father assured the families that marriage would follow.

Attempts to terminate the pregnancy at seven months were denied by doctors due to medical risks. As time passed, Srikrishna’s family allegedly changed their stance, with his mother opposing the marriage and offering alternate “arrangements” that raised concern.

The victim’s mother claimed that both families met multiple times, and even involved the police and political leaders. She alleged that a local MLA discouraged her from filing an FIR, promising resolution once the boy turned 21. However, after he reached legal age, he reportedly refused the marriage, and negotiations broke down.

Further, the girl’s mother accused members of Hindu organizations of demanding money and making insensitive suggestions, including asking whether the child could be “donated.”

Despite filing a police complaint on June 24, no serious action has been taken. The mother now suspects the boy is being hidden by his family and called for immediate intervention by authorities.
