Mangaluru: In a sharp reaction to the recent NIA raids on the residences of SDPI leaders in Bajpe, Jamal Jokatte, SDPI Mangaluru City District General Secretary, accused the central agency of acting on political motives and fueling hate politics.
The raids are linked to the investigation into the murder of rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty, a case initially described by local police as gang-related violence. Jamal Jokatte, in a press release, criticized the NIA’s involvement, calling it a move to divert public attention from the Dharmasthala case and to falsely implicate SDPI members.
He emphasized that the local police had already arrested suspects in the case and that the then Mangaluru Commissioner had clearly stated that no SDPI worker was involved. “Despite this, the NIA has targeted our leaders under the guise of investigation,” he alleged.
Calling the NIA the “caged parrot of the Centre,” Jokatte accused the government of using investigative agencies to harass political opponents. He stated that the SDPI will challenge the NIA’s actions in court and condemned what he termed as psychological warfare against their leadership.
