During a meeting of the Arogya Raksha Samitis for Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals in Bengaluru on Friday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao discussed establishing a dedicated police outpost at Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru. He advised that the proposal be taken up with the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner to initiate necessary steps.
Samiti members highlighted that Wenlock District Hospital serves patients from nearly 13 districts, operating 24/7, which results in a constant flow of people. They stressed that a police outpost is essential to ensure the safety of female staff, all employees, and visitors.
The meeting also covered several development concerns. Members urged the release of long-pending stipend funds for GNM nursing students, pending for three years. The minister directed the departmental commissioner to release the payments. On the issue of staff shortages caused by recent transfers, he instructed the commissioner to proceed with recruitment for doctors and nurses.
To address the hospital’s high electricity expenses, members recommended installing a solar power system, prompting the minister to order a cost estimate. At Lady Goschen Hospital, concerns over unpaid medicine bills were raised, leading to immediate instructions for fund release.
Present at the meeting were Samiti members Padmanabha Amin, Abdul Kareem Gerukatte, J. Shashidhar Bajal, Anil M. Rasquinha, and Jayaram Didupe.
