The Mangaluru Forest Department has announced a public hearing regarding the proposed felling of 99 trees for the road expansion project on National Highway 66, specifically from KPT to Nanthoor. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has requested the removal of these trees within the Mangalore City Corporation limits, particularly in Kadri B and Maroli villages, covering a stretch of 0.35 km.

As mandated by the Karnataka Forest Conservation Act, a public hearing is required when over 50 trees are to be cut. This hearing is scheduled for September 2 at 11 a.m. at the Office of the Range Forest Officer in Hoigebazar, Mangaluru. The public is encouraged to attend and share their views.

Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta has urged NHAI officials to expedite proposals for constructing vehicle overpasses (VOP) at Nanthoor and KPT Junctions on NH 66 to alleviate traffic congestion. He emphasized the need for a well-planned approach to the project to ensure a lasting solution for the city’s traffic issues.
