An alert track maintainer, Pradeep Shetty, averted a potential train mishap on the Konkan Railway Corporation network. Shetty noticed a weld failure of rails between Innanje and Padubidri in Udupi district during his rounds at 2:25 am.
Immediately, he notified higher officials, leading to prompt restoration measures at km 706/02-04.
The incident occurred just before Train No. 16345 Mumbai LTT-Thiruvananthapuram Central Netravathi Express and Train No. 16595 KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express were scheduled to pass through the area.
In recognition of Shetty’s vigilance and quick action, Chairman and Managing Director of Konkan Railway, Santosh Kumar Jha, awarded him Rs 25,000, which was presented to Shetty by noon at the site. Senior engineer Gopalakrishnan also felicitated Shetty for his proactive approach to rail safety.
