A group of villagers from Kudripadavu, Niddodi, Kallamundkur, Badaga, Mijar, and nearby areas in Moodbidri taluk have urged Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP to halt the construction of the Udupi-Kasaragod 400 KV power transmission line on privately owned land. They voiced strong opposition to the project, fearing severe damage to their farmlands and homes.
In their petitions to the DC, residents claimed that company officials overseeing the project were trespassing onto private properties without consent. They alleged that neither public consultations nor formal notifications had been conducted before initiating the work. The affected farmers emphasized that agriculture is their sole livelihood and that the transmission lines could disrupt their land, making cultivation difficult.
Villagers also accused the project contractors of proceeding with the survey work under police protection, further escalating tensions. They demanded that the power line be rerouted to avoid private lands and minimize disputes.
Landowner Alphons D’Souza from Niddodi, speaking on behalf of the protestors, stated that farmers expressed their grievances to the DC, urging immediate intervention. He emphasized that they are not against development but insist on alternative routes that do not threaten their agricultural lands.
Residents now await government action, hoping for a resolution that safeguards both infrastructure development and their livelihoods.
