Mangaluru: A tragic incident unfolded at Shree Mukya Prana Pre-Primary School in Kenjar on Monday when a portion of a classroom roof caved in during school hours, leaving a young child injured.

The victim, a kindergarten pupil named Shoonith, sustained head and nasal injuries as a result of the sudden collapse. He was promptly taken to a nearby medical facility for immediate care.

The mishap occurred while heavy rains and gusty winds battered the region. The inclement weather is suspected to have compromised the building’s structural integrity, leading to the accident.

At the time of the incident, 21 children were present inside the classroom. Fortunately, no other students were harmed, and a potential disaster was narrowly avoided.

Parents and school staff were left shaken, raising serious concerns about the safety of infrastructure at educational institutions, particularly during the monsoon season.

Following the collapse, local officials are expected to conduct a thorough inspection of the school premises. Their assessment will determine if urgent renovations or reinforcements are needed to ensure the safety of the children and staff.

The district education department is also likely to issue guidelines mandating safety audits in schools, especially those in weather-prone areas. Preventative action is now a top priority to avoid any recurrence of such dangerous incidents.

Authorities have urged all schools to take precautionary measures during adverse weather and report any signs of structural damage without delay.
