Mangaluru – The Sahitya Akademi (National Academy of Letters), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will mark the birth centenary of eminent Konkani novelist and journalist V J P Saldanha (Khaddap) with a special seminar from August 13 to 14 at Robert Sequeira Hall, LCRI Block, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.
Organised in association with the Konkani Institute, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), and Vision Konkani, the two-day event will explore Saldanha’s literary journey, his contribution to Konkani literature, and his impact on journalism.
As part of the celebrations, the Sahitya Akademi will also conduct a three-day Book Exhibition-cum-Discount Sale from August 12 to 14 at Sahodaya Hall, St Aloysius, between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. The exhibition will feature works in Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, English, and Hindi, providing literature enthusiasts an opportunity to explore diverse languages and genres.
Writers, literary scholars, academics, and students are encouraged to attend the seminar and visit the exhibition. Organisers have invited media outlets to cover the programme and help spread awareness about the celebration of Saldanha’s legacy.
The event aims not only to honour one of Konkani’s most respected literary voices but also to bring together lovers of literature in a shared cultural space.
