Mangaluru: A tragic accident on the Karnataka-Kerala border at Talapadi claimed six lives when a KSRTC bus collided with an auto rickshaw on Wednesday afternoon. The mishap occurred around 1:45 pm, causing a major traffic jam in the area.

Nafisa (52), Khatija’s younger sister
Hasina (13), Khatija’s elder sister’s daughter
Aisha Fida (19), Nafisa’s daughter
Havvamma (70), a relative visiting Khatija’s house
Haider Ali (47), auto driver from Ajni Nadka
According to preliminary reports, all six died on the spot.

Eyewitnesses stated that the bus, travelling from Kasaragod, allegedly lost control and rammed into the auto rickshaw that was ferrying the family towards Kerala. The bus reportedly overturned after the impact, injuring additional bystanders and damaging another parked auto.
Two pedestrians waiting for a bus nearby sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Deralakatte Hospital for emergency treatment.

The family had reportedly planned a short trip to a relative’s house in Manjeshwar as schools were closed due to heavy rain. What was meant to be a routine journey turned into a devastating accident.

Manjeshwar police reached the spot, cleared traffic congestion, and registered a case. Authorities are investigating whether mechanical failure or driver negligence caused the accident.
