A video showing a student being thrown from an overcrowded private bus traveling from Talapady to Mangaluru has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred on the Saint Anthony private city bus, route number 42, which was crammed with passengers. The video was captured by a passenger in a car trailing the bus.

The bus had stopped near the Thokkottu railway overbridge, and as it made a sudden halt, the student—who was precariously hanging onto the footboard—was thrown onto the road. Fortunately, the student escaped without injury. The entire incident was recorded on a passenger’s mobile phone and rapidly spread across social media platforms, sparking outrage.

Due to a shortage of bus services in certain areas, many students are forced to cling to the footboards of overcrowded buses in a desperate rush to reach their schools and colleges. This dangerous practice has previously resulted in fatal accidents. Two years ago, Yasharaj, a first-year PU student, tragically lost his life after being thrown from an overloaded bus near Kallapu Adam Kudru.

Despite repeated incidents, public sentiment suggests that traffic authorities have failed to take stringent action against private buses that continue to operate in an unsafe manner, endangering passengers’ lives.
