As part of the ongoing Suvarna Karnataka celebrations, Mangaluru will host a vibrant multicultural festival at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday. The event, celebrating the golden jubilee of the state’s renaming to Karnataka, will showcase a diverse array of cultural programs representing various linguistic communities.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the festival on Tuesday at 11 am, with key dignitaries including Speaker UT Khader, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Minor Irrigation NS Boseraju, and CM’s legal advisor AS Ponnappa in attendance. Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath will preside over the event.
The two-day festival is organized under the theme ‘Let Karnataka be the name, let Kannada be the breath’ as part of the Karnataka Suvarna Sambhrama golden jubilee. It is a joint effort by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Arebhashe Academy, Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, and Yakshagana Academy, in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada district administration.
The celebrations will kick off on Tuesday with a grand cultural procession at 9 am, starting from Ambedkar Circle and moving towards the Town Hall. The procession will feature cultural representations from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, and Mangaluru, with participation from various art troupes and district tableaux.
Cultural events on Tuesday will be held from 2 pm to 9 pm and include a variety of performances such as Arebhashe Siri Samskruti dance drama, Dolu Vadana Gajamela, Dudi Kunitha, and Kolata, along with traditional dances from different communities like Siddi, Kudubi, Beary, and Kodava.
Yakshagana Academy will perform the episode ‘Sridevi Bhuvaneshwari’. On Wednesday, from 4:30 pm, the festival will continue with a special Yakshagana music concert.
