Mangaluru: Mulki police have taken two young men into custody for allegedly befriending a minor girl through Instagram and later misleading her before taking her away without consent.
The individuals have been identified as Deepak (19), employed as a bus conductor and hailing from Badagubettu, Udupi, and his associate Naveen Shetty (21), a resident of Bhatripalke, Parkala, Atradi.
As per the preliminary investigation, on July 19, the duo is reported to have approached the girl near Bappanadu, transported her on a two-wheeler, and taken her to Udupi. During this time, they allegedly acted inappropriately, violating her personal space and trust.
Police registered a formal FIR at the Mulki police station, and further inquiry is underway to gather additional details.
The case underscores rising concerns over online safety for minors and the misuse of social media platforms to gain trust.
