Mangaluru: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Panambur police arrested two men from Bihar for possessing and attempting to sell narcotic substances within the Panambur police station limits. The operation took place on September 1 near Thokuru railway station road.
Arrest near railway station
Acting on a tip-off, Panambur PSI Gnanasekhara and his team, under the direction of ACP (North Sub-Division) Srikant K. R. and Inspector Mohammed Saleem Abbas, carried out the raid around 4:40 pm. Two youths were caught with quantities of ganja allegedly meant for sale in Mangaluru.
Accused and seizures
The arrested have been identified as Harsh Kumar (22) of Arnaut village, Nalanda district, Bihar, and Amar Kumar (28) of Shapur village, Vaishali district, Bihar.
Police seized 1.23 kg of ganja from Harsh Kumar and 80 grams from Amar Kumar, with the total haul valued at around ₹75,000. Two mobile phones, reportedly used to coordinate the sale, were also confiscated.
Background of accused
Investigations revealed that Harsh Kumar had earlier worked at a Meesho and Flipkart hub in Patna, while Amar Kumar was employed at a vegetable shop in Delhi. Both had moved to Mangaluru and are suspected of targeting the public in the city for narcotics sales.
Case registered
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Section 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), at Panambur police station (Crime No. 75/2025). Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and other possible associates.
Conclusion
The arrest adds to a series of drug-related crackdowns in coastal Karnataka, where police have intensified operations against narcotic trafficking in recent months. Authorities said that surveillance and enforcement drives would continue to curb the menace.
