Mangaluru: In a landmark initiative, Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru has become the first government medical institution in Karnataka to be equipped with a unique buggy-style ambulance. The vehicle has been donated through the MLA Local Area Development Fund, with the sponsorship coming from MLC Ivan D’Souza.
This novel mode of patient transport, not available in any other state-run hospital so far, is expected to bring immense relief to individuals who require easy mobility within the hospital premises. Patients often need to be moved from one block to another for treatment, tests, or recovery. Until now, shifting them between buildings has posed challenges.
The new buggy ambulance will especially help those who undergo surgical procedures in Wenlock’s recently constructed wing. After the operation, many patients are transferred back to the older section of the hospital for post-operative care. The vehicle will ensure such transfers happen comfortably and quickly.
In addition, the buggy will serve patients who need to be escorted for diagnostic procedures such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs. Its design allows smoother, more convenient movement, reducing both time and strain for staff and patients alike.
Medical officers, surgeons, and administrators of Wenlock Hospital have expressed heartfelt appreciation to Ivan D’Souza for introducing this facility. They emphasized that it will enhance patient care and add efficiency to hospital operations, making healthcare more accessible and compassionate.
