Mangaluru: In a significant development, Yasin Bhatkal alias Shahrukh, also known as Dr. Araju, the main accused in a long-pending 2008 terrorism case under the Ullal Police Station limits, was produced for the first time before the court today via video conference.
The appearance marks the formal resumption of the trial, which had stalled for years due to Bhatkal’s absconding status.
🔍 Background of the Case:
On October 4, 2008, based on credible intelligence about Indian Mujahideen operatives conducting terror activities in Mukkacheri and Chembugudde, the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) raided the locations under Ullal PS limits in Dakshina Kannada.

The case was registered as Crime No. 242/2008 under various sections for possession of IFX and explosive materials.
Seven accused were arrested at the time; six remained absconding.

Bhatkal, presently serving a sentence in Tihar Jail for his conviction in the Hyderabad bomb blasts, was produced before the Hon’ble JMFC Court on July 24, 2025, via video conferencing, thanks to the coordinated efforts of Ullal Police and Tihar Jail authorities.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 20, 2025.
