Mangaluru/Udupi: Monsoon activity is set to pick up pace again along Karnataka’s coastline after a short break, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from August 14 to 19. The forecast warns of heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds during this period.

On Wednesday, several areas of Dakshina Kannada, including Mangaluru, recorded moderate showers. In Mangaluru city, the day’s maximum temperature was 26.9°C, while the minimum dipped to 22.9°C.

In Udupi district, the weather remained overcast from early morning, with steady rain recorded in many localities. Areas that saw moderate showers include Padubidri, Kaup, Shirva, Katapadi, Udupi town, Malpe, Brahmavar, Kota, Manipal, Hebri, Karkala, Kundapur, and Byndoor.

The IMD has cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea during this period due to strong winds and rough conditions. Officials have also urged residents in low-lying and landslide-prone regions to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Authorities say the renewed spell of rain could help replenish water bodies and improve groundwater levels, though it may also disrupt transportation and daily routines if downpours intensify.
